Tasting Note: This exciting pinot pours with more colour depth than the average PEC pinot, and shows a very lifted, classic, quite ripe cherry/raspberry nose with generous spice, vanilla and toast from new wood. Almost more Niagara or even Oregon in initial presentation. But it is light to medium bodied, juicy and elegant – but still needing a couple of years to relax and integrate. Very stylish, trailing classic County minerality and chippy tannin. Outstanding length is its ace in the hole. I sense this will age very well, at least a decade.
Backgrounder: Broken Stone was founded on Closson Road, the main street of PEC wine country, in 2010 by Torontonians Tim and Micheline Kuepfer, gradually adding acreage and by 2020 receiving critical acclaim for classic mineral-driven pinots and chardonnay. Their 2023 County Pinot Noir took top honours at the local Judgment of Kingston in 2024, followed by “The One” taking the same prize in a blind tasting at 2025 edition. This very limited barrel selection from the Magic Hill Vineyard was originally released for Club Members, with a small lot released after the Judgment
