Tasting Note I was fortunate to taste this new vintage at the winery in December 2025 alongside the 2022 and 2021 vintages of JCR, the flagship premium label, that is undergoing a design change with the 2023 vintage (shown in the photo). The exercise framed the character of the 2023 vintage very well, and spoke to the firmer structure, better balance and depth of the year. The nose is very pretty and lifted with classic County strawberry-cherry, cinnamon spice and light toast. It is light to medium bodied, fleshy, warm and almost dense for the genre. Flavour intensity is quite powerful, with firm acidity and tannin providing the framework. A bit astringent and green for now, but also elegant even in its youth. The length is excellent to outstanding. Best 2028 to 2035.
Backgrounder Rosehall Run is one of the very first PEC wineries, the land on Greer Road near Hillier purchased in 2000 by Dan and Lynn Sullivan, and business partner Cam Reston (who has lent his JCR initials to the premium-tier wines). The first vintage in 2004 was almost exclusively pinot noir and chardonnay. Today there are 25 acres of vines including pinot gris, sauvignon blanc, gewürztraminer, muscat and tempranillo. Rosehall was certified sustainable in 2023. The top tier is St. Cindy Pinot and Chardonnay, only made in exceptional vintages like 2020. The JCR Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are made every vintage. The pinots are aged about 18 months in 265-litre French oak barrels, one third new, two thirds second fill. This 2023 is set for spring release, but it is bottled now. The 2022, 2021 and 2020 vintages are still available, providing a rare opportunity to purchase a County pinot vertical tasting.
