Tasting Note This proprietary namesake red is a surprising, energized and intriguing wine with an intense and fragrant aroma chock full of cabernet sauvignon led red and blackcurrant, cranberry, fresh and roasted herbs with generous cedary wood spice, vanillin and resin. It is medium bodied, not as heavy as the bottle weight suggests. In fact, I found it to be in the same weight class as Tuscan Brunello di Montalcino (not Bordeaux), with similar aromatics. And there is Niagara acid juiciness, even a prickle of freshness, at its core. Tannins are chippy but not astringent. The length is excellent to outstanding. It should age well mid-term, but it is showing more charm and current appeal than I would have guessed. Last tasted December 2025.
Backgrounder – The Stone Eagle brand has existed within the realm of Two Sisters since 2012, but in November 2025 it flew the nest into its own home in a stately new winery and events centre in Niagara-on-the-Lake, with talented winemaker Adam Pearce at the helm of both projects. Stone Eagle is a family winery managed by sisters Melissa Marotta-Paolicelli and Angela Marotta, who have built an entity that aims top wrung in every facet. This is comprised of 40% cabernet sauvignon, 39% merlot and 21% cabernet franc, from estate vineyards in the Niagara River appellation that were planted in 2007 at Two Sisters.
