Tasting Note – This is a deeply hued, luminous cab franc with a sense of polish, ripeness and beautiful fruit. It is among the ripest in this collection, with raspberry moving into blackberry, taking on violet, and cab franc’s herbality in the background as a soft evergreen forest note. Light toast and chocolate from the oak are nicely placed as well. It is medium-full bodied, quite open knit, soft, warming and sophisticated, with dusty, slightly crusty tannin. The length is excellent to outstanding. Easily approachable now and should please over the next five years.
Backgrounder – Liquidity is a small, elegant and aesthetic winery in the Icon Wineries group owned by Anthony von Mandel. The architectural winery is set in Okanagan Falls, a very scenic enclave of hills and vales with myriad vineyard aspects that is best known for chardonnay and pinot noir. This cabernet franc is however from a vineyard in Oliver, a bit further south. It was and harvested and sorted, fermented in small batches in both stainless steel and clay amphora. Careful cap management and skin contact combined with the micro-oxidative effects of amphora, result in the fine tannin structure. The stainless steel components were aged in French oak to age for 156 months.
