Tasting Note This site lying just north of the Vinemount Ridge appellation boundary is famed for producing zesty high-acid wines, and the grapes are often used for Tawse sparkling wines. So, expect classic cool-climate elements here with lifted lemon-lime powder confection, green apple and evergreen cedar bough. The palate is lighter bodied (only 10% ABV) and higher in acid than the other single vineyards and is made in an off-dry to medium-sweet style. It is slim, juicy and open knit with all kinds of chalky minerality on the finish. There is also a sense of youthful CO2. The finish is quite lemony and a touch bitter. The length is excellent.
Backgrounder This is a gently north-sloping site at the southern boundary of Twenty Mile Bench, so perhaps the coolest in the appellation. It is adjacent to Flat Rock Cellars. It is also one of the most limestone-rich sites in Niagara. Adding to all these cool-climate, acid-producing elements, the 2024 vintage was just a bit higher in acid than 2023. The site is organically farmed. The winemaking here was quite straightforward, using indigenous yeast. Fermentation was stopped at 10% ABV, leaving notable residual sugar.
