CedarCreek Platinum Pinot Noir 2025

South Kelowna Slopes, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia

Tasting Note: This is the first 2025 B.C. pinot I have tasted and it bodes well for the vintage, a bounce back year after the wipe out of the 2024 vintage following a January deep freeze. It pours brilliant, translucent pale purple-ruby with obvious youth. The nose likewise is bursting with young, grapy quite ripe morello cherry fruit, with red rose florals, some reductive flint and tar and light, well measured barrel spice. It feels medium weight despite 14.5% abv, with a lovely sense of freshness and richness at the same time. Very evenly textured, almost manicured. The acidity is juicy and tart-edged, the alcohol subtly involved and the tannins showing youthful grit, but not austerity. There a very fine slimness here without any sense of dilution. The length is excellent.  The reductive chemical note needs time, so I am hedging my rating.

Backgrounder: CedarCreek was one of the founding properties in the Kelowna area, with west facing, evening sun catching vineyards in what is now the South Kelowna Slopes appellation. The site features complex soils composed of glacial till, silt, and clay. It was planted primarily to chardonnay, pinot noir and riesling by the Fitzpatrick family after purchasing the property in 1986. Then in 2014 it was acquired by Anthony Von Mandl, with the winery updated and vineyards converted to organic viticulture. The centre piece has always been the Home Block beside the winery (shown below) but this also included fruit from the adjacent Simes Vineyard.  The 2025 vintage was abundant and warm, creating quite ripe fruit presence. It was hand harvested, wild fermented in concrete tanks, then aged a short time in French oak barrels.
