Tasting Note:  Of all the Niagara syrahs, except perhaps Creekside’s BrokenPress, this fulfils the expectation of ripe, rounded, supple and generous almost New world syrah/shiraz. Feels Aussie with its 14% alcohol and generous 15 months oaking, but aromatics tend more to French syrah with fairly ripe cherry, violet florals, pepper, with cigar and chocolate notes. It is full bodied, fairly dense, softer and evenly made with tannins nicely balanced and firm. The length is very good to excellent. Tasted July 2026.

Backgrounder: Fielding, located on the Beamsville Bench, but buying fruit across the Peninsula, makes a wide range of well priced, very well made, delicious wines that keep winning awards and consumer approval for their value. In fact, Fielding ranked second in all of Canada at the 2026 National Wine Awards of Canada.  Most of their wines are medium priced but winemaker Richie Roberts is just as happy to tackle premium reds as well. This is sourced from two blocks in the legendary Lowrey Vineyard on the apron of the warmer St. Davids Bench. It was hand-harvested, spent five weeks on its skins before pressing and aged 16 months in French oak on lees before bottling. It was bottled unfined and unfiltered.
