Tasting Note Cinsault is a staple of red varieties used to make rose in Mediterranean Europe and this, surprisingly, captures its essence. It is a thin-skinned variety that easily renders pale colour, then adds in soft, strawberry/red plum fruit, with subtle lilac blossom and a hint of saffron – the secret sauce of Provencal roses. This is light to medium bodied, soft with gentle sweetness, but the alcohol balance and some trace minerality keep it all in ballast. Very pleasant in its understated way. With excellent length. Chill well.
Backgounder This wine is true to variety — and it’s so interesting that the Okanagan can do this style so well out of the gate. “En Terre” or earthen, is a side gig by the very adventurous folks at TerraVista of Naramata, who purchased this tiny .33-acre Rock Oven site in Okanagan Falls. It was planted to cinsault in 2019 on own-rooted vines under the Peach Cliff overhang where higher temperatures made Mediterranean cinsault viable. The grapes were de-stemmed and cold soaked for 20 hours before gently pressing. The juice was settled in stainless steel and then fermented until dry and further aged before bottling in early 2026.
