Tasting Note This is a blend of cabernet franc and merlot made in a very approachable smooth and almost graceful style, yet without any notable sweetness. The aromas show typical rose red fruits like strawberry and redcurrant with the cabernet franc infusing dried herbs. It is medium bodied with well-managed 12.5% alcohol, modest acidity and, again, no perceptible sweetness. The finish is even; the length is excellent. It’s a fine patio-sipping style that should work with all kinds of flavourful and spicy Mediterranean and Asian alfresco meals.
Backgrounder Osoyoos-based La Stella is a sister property to Le Vieux Pin, sharing vineyards and team members under the guidance of managing partner and winemaker Severine Pinte. La Stella has a Tuscan feel, one of few B.C wineries to have sangiovese, although cabernet franc and merlot dominate. Both feature in this rose, which uses both the press and saignée (bleeding) methods. Fruit is from vineyards in Naramata and Osoyoos that are 12-to-18-years old.
