Tasting Note I am very keen on 2023 Niagara rieslings. Please see the May 2026 post on Canada’s Serious Rieslings. This is an exciting example in a just off-dry version. There is so much going on that sweetness and dryness barely register. It has an intense, lifted, classic riesling nose of petrol, green apple/pear, linden flower, honeycomb waxiness, and a curious mossy note. It is medium weight and off-dry with great acidity and almost oyster shell minerality on the finish, plus lemon-lime sorbet and green apple. Excellent to outstanding length.
Backgrounder Vinemount Ridge may be Niagara’s best riesling terroir. The Quarry Road Vineyard is perfectly situated on the gently north sloping apron of Vinemount Ridge. Being less moderated by lake proximity and a higher altitude it is a cooler and windy site, with fruit ripening later than the vineyards below the Escarpment. But it has the same limestone base with shallow clay loam topsoil. This organically grown riesling block was planted in 2007. It registers 10.5% alcohol with29 g/L of residual sugar.
